Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 250 g Plain flour
  • 40 g Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 50 g Granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 300 ml Milk
  • 80 ml Sparkling water
  • 115 g Melted butter
  • 100 g Chocolate chips

Method

  1. Whisk the Base: In a large bowl, whisk together your flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Prep the Liquids: In a separate jug, mix the egg yolks, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir in the sparkling water last to keep the bubbles active.
  3. Whip the Whites: In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  4. Combine: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry. Whisk until mostly smooth (a few small lumps are better than a rubbery over-mixed batter).
  5. Fold & add Chips: Gently fold in the stiff egg whites and the mini chocolate chips.
  6. The Vertical Pour: Using the measuring cup provided with your WaffleUp, pour the batter into the top funnel. Pro Tip: Give the batter a quick stir just before each pour to make sure the chips haven't settled at the bottom of your bowl!
  7. Bake: Set your WaffleUp to Level 3 or 4. Wait for the beep, then release the handle to reveal your chocolate-studded masterpiece.

Notes

Since chocolate can be a bit sticky if it touches the plates directly, it’s a good idea to give the inside of the machine a light spray of oil before your first waffle. If any chocolate melts onto the rim of the funnel, wipe it away while it’s still warm (but be careful of the heat!) to keep the flow clear for the next batch.
